I write from the sharp end: the point where strategy meets reality, where adversaries are real, and where resilience is tested.

Over 15 years as a tech journalist, I interviewed the people who built, and sometimes broke, the internet: Kevin Mitnick, Bruce Schneier, two of the three creators of the RSA algorithm, Paul Mockapetris (inventor of DNS), Eric Allman (creator of the original Sendmail), among others. I then spent the next 10 years as a practitioner, learning firsthand how organizations struggle to apply that wisdom to their own businesses.

By subscribing, you’ll never miss content about:

  • Cyber crisis management beyond playbooks and checklists

  • Organizational resilience when structures and people are under real strain

  • Adversary tactics drawn from real incidents, from ransomware operations to business fraud

  • The human, cultural, and operational trade-offs behind corporate security decisions

  • Investigative deep dives into overlooked threats, including spam operations, lead-generation scams, and fraud at scale

  • Educational articles exploring cybersecurity practices and trends

No vendor narratives. No inflated best practices. No fake consultant war stories.

This is written by someone who has been doing this for 26 years. From tech journalism, to embedding with clients during ransomware crises, to proving security assumptions wrong in unexpected places, to unraveling fraud schemes targeting businesses.

My goal is to speak to executives and practitioners who understand that cybersecurity is not about being right in theory, but about being there when it matters.

My promise:

  • Full articles (no paywalls on core content)

  • No spam, no sales pitches, no security theater

  • Lessons from real operations: crisis management, red teaming, and fraud investigations

  • Practical, educational cybersecurity content grounded in real-world experience

Just real-world security from someone who has spent weeks in boardrooms during ransomware incidents and traced exactly how your email address ended up in spammers’ databases.

About the author:

Jerome Saiz founded OPFOR Intelligence in 2015, after 15 years as a tech journalist.
